How secure is my computer on a public Kalamazoo WiFi?
Treat this WiFi just like any other public WiFi and turn on your computer's firewall.
I have a Game Console, SmartTV or Blu-ray player that does not have a web browser and cannot display a login page.
Send the wireless MAC address of the device along with your name, Wifi login name (or your address) and 6 digit Wifi password to info @ kalamazoowifi.com. Make sure to send us the "Wireless" MAC address and not the "Wired" MAC address. To find your MAC, Google something like "xbox wireless mac" or "wii wireless mac". The wireless MAC will be a long number that looks something like 00:B1:94:BE:78:64
I have a Google Chromecast, but it won't work.
Send an email to info @ kalamazoowifi.com, and mention this. We might be able to get it to work.
I see a message "No More Sessions Are Allowed".
This message means you have logged in too many devices into your account. You can log out a device by opening a browser on it and clicking this link 192.168.3.254/logout (or just type it in). Or you can stop using a device for about 24 hours and it will be logged out automatically.
I use NetFlix and the movies pause often.
Video streaming (like NetFlix or Youtube) takes a lot of Internet speed, and your speed may not be fast enough. You can buy higher speed (see the Subscribe page) or you can reduce your NetFlix speed by going to netflix.com/videoquality and selecting "Low" Data Usage.
My Internet speed is slower than normal.
First try rebooting your computer, and if the speed is still slow, run a speed test by going to speedtest.charter.com. Then send the test results to info @ kalamazoowifi.com, and we will investigate. Do not use file sharing (BitTorrent) software, or computer software that backs up large amounts of data over the Internet. The Wifi system will reduce your speed if it detects unusual downloading or uploading.
.
I lost my login name and password.
Since you are required to log in every few weeks to keep your account active, your password is very important. Kalamazoo Wifi can not give out passwords over the phone or email, so contact the manager of your apartment complex.
I don't see any wireless networks.
Desktop computers may need a wireless USB adapter to receive WiFi signals. Laptops have built-in WiFi, but may have a switch to turn it on and off.
I don't see a login page on my device.
The Google browser "Chrome" has problems displaying login pages on many public hotspots. Try Firefox or I.E. to log in.
